Mostizzolo Viaduct
View of the Mostizzolo viaduct over the River Noce near Cis. The Ferrovia Trento-Male-Mezzana or Non Valley railway line runs almost 70 km from Trento through the Val di Non to Mezzana in the Valle di Sole, climbing 700 metres in altitude. It was opened in 1909 during the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy (at that time only as far as Male). Castles, deep gorges and large apple orchards characterise the valley.
During my hikes along the railway line, I found three locations that I wanted to photograph. This view shows the character of the railway line quite well.
I was quite happy that I had found this one spot between the apple orchards with a view of the river and the bridge and actually wanted to postpone the photos until the next day (it was too sunny). Towards evening, the weather changed and clouds started to gather. The cloud cover opened up again and again for a few minutes and the sun lit up the valley. I hoped that the train would be on time before the light disappeared behind the mountains – it was.
