Lenzener Elbtalaue
This oak tree stands in the Lenzener Elbtalaue nature reserve, on a bend in the River Elbe near the Brandenburg town of Lenzen. An old patrol path from the days of the inner-German border still runs along the Elbe here. As part of a major nature conservation project, the main dyke was moved far back from the Elbe; the old dyke near the river was ‘slit’, allowing the newly reclaimed foreshore to be flooded. The result is a fascinating landscape, the likes of which are rarely found along German rivers.
I must admit that I have a soft spot for river landscapes. I was delighted when I discovered this spot during my exploratory tour. I decided to return early the next morning, hoping for the right light.
When I arrived by bike the following morning, there was the soft morning light I had been hoping for.
