Tree at North Window
The North Window is a viewpoint in Monument Valley and is located between Elephant and Cly Butte. From there you have a view over the high plateau, the numerous mesas with their poetic names and a landscape that has been shaped by wind and rain over thousands of years.
Juniper trees grow between the rocks – some large, others old and weathered, but all wondrously bent and curved. Something about this tree had attracted me back then, something I can’t describe in words.
I set up the large format camera, saw the tree upside down on the screen and at that moment I knew it was going to be a good photograph. It has become one of my favorite photograph, not only of this series, and I like it even more today than I did then.
