Passo di Giau
Dolomites, Italy
View of the south-west ramp just below the top of the pass (2233 m) and the mountains Monte Gusela, Monte Nuvolau and Monte Averau.
People have been crossing this part of the Dolomites since the Stone Age. The first road was built during the First World War and quickly fell into ruin. In 1968, severe storms destroyed the already bad road and it had to be rebuilt to its present state. The old embankment can still be seen on the north-eastern ramp.
I like this unique colourfulness of the Dolomite mountains and was very happy that despite the sunshine there was no “disturbing” blue sky, but these wonderful clouds.
