Furka Mountain Line
Steam train on the Furka mountain line below the Furka summit tunnel. The snow remained until well into July this year. I was looking for a nice view of the railroad, hiked more on all fours on the mountainside below the pass road until I finally found a perfect spot above the Sidelenstafel alpine building. I hoped that the same train with the red carriages from the morning would also be on the way back.
The train is led by the over 100-year-old HG 3/4 No. 9 locomotive, which had been in service in Vietnam for several years and has been back on the Furka mountain line since a spectacular recovery operation.
I took this photograph at the beginning of my work on the Alpenbahnen book and it shows my photo concept quite well. Everyone involved understood the idea and was full of anticipation for the resulting photograph.
